Entrevista con Carlos de Pena
Gracias al Real Oviedo se me ha concedido la oportunidad de hacerle una entrevista exclusiva a Carlos de Pena. Estoy muy agradecido al Real Oviedo y, en particular, a Miguel Sanz por darme esta oportunidad.
En primer lugar, Carlitos, deseo darte las gracias por acceder a ser entrevistado. En nombre de la comunidad internacional de accionistas del Real Oviedo creo que puedo decir que es un gran gesto el que nos permitas entrevistarte ya que nos hace sentirnos más cerca de los jugadores, formando parte del club.
John: ¿Qué tal te has adaptado al grupo?¿Te han hecho sentir bienvenido?
Carlitos: Me siento muy a gusto aquí en Oviedo. Es como estar en casa. El mismo idioma, la misma comida, el mismo clima y un gran equipo de compañeros, lo cual es lo más importante. Desde el primer día, en que me dieron un gran recibimiento, es un placer compartir vestuario con ellos
J: Has jugado como profesional en tu Uruguay natal, en Inglaterra y ahora en España. ¿Cuáles son las principales diferencias?
C: Hay muchísimas diferencias, principalmente en la intensidad y ritmo de juego. En Uruguay es muy lento y se basa en pensar cada jugada. En Inglaterra hay un ritmo muy alto con ataques ante ambas porterías durante los 90 minutos. En España, puedes encontrar jugadores de mucha calidad y, aunque el ritmo no es tan alto como en Inglaterra, hay equipo que juegan con una alta intensidad.
J: ¿Qué crees que puedes aportarle al Real Oviedo de aquí a final de temporada?
C: Estoy preparado desde el día en que llegué así que pienso que cuando el entrenador crea que ha llegado mi momento, jugaré y lo daré todo. Llegué a Oviedo con el sueño de ser partícipe de un gran logro para el club: ascender. Confío mucho en mí mismo y en el equipo para poder lograrlo.
J: Los aficionados azules no te han podido ver mucho, ¿qué tipo de jugador eres y cuáles son tus principales virtudes?
C: Me gusta encarar con el balón a los laterale, el derecho o el izquierdo, dependiendo de en qué banda juegue. Creo que disparo muy bien desde fuera del área, además de poner buenos centros. Sin embargo, si se necesita que haga labores más defensivas para el equipo, también puedo hacerlo.
J: ¿Cómo de confiados estais tanto tú como el resto de la plantilla en poder ascender en el play-off o el objetivo es lograr meterse en play-off y empezar a pensar en subir entonces?
C: Ahora mismo, la principal meta es meternos en el play-off. Después podremos empezar a pensar en ascender. Hay que ir paso a paso. No podemos pensar más allá del próximo partido. Entendiéndolo así, nos concentramos sólo en el siguiente encuentro.
J:¿Qué impresión te causó el Carlos Tartiere y su ambiente?
C: Cada partido allí te sientes en casa. El ambiente es increíble y nuestros seguidores nos dan mucho empuje para conseguir los tres puntos. Es muy importante cuando la grada anima o canta porque es muy positivo para nosotros y tiene un efecto negativo sobre nuestros rivales.
J: ¿Ya conocías la historia del Real Oviedo tras 2012, con el apoyo de accionistas de todo el mundo, antes de haber firmado? Es un club especial, ¿verdad?
C: Por supuesto que conocía el pasado reciente del equipo. Es un gran club y merece estar en La Liga la próxima temporada como solía hacerlo hace años, además de jugar competiciones europeas. Tengo la esperanza de que podemos lograr nuestro objetivo y hacer realidad el sueño de todos los oviedistas.
J:¿Qué opinas de Oviedo y de Asturias en general? Tanto muchos otros accionistas azules con los que he hablado como yo mismo nos hemos enamorado del lugar y de su gente.
C: Oviedo es una ciudad pequeña pero muy bonita. Aquí tienes de todo. Desde lugares agradables donde comer a unos paisajes increíbles que visitar y apreciar. En mis días libres, me gusta coger el coche y encontrar lugares desconocidos como playas o montañas.
J: Por último, la pregunta que todo el mundo estaba esperando, ¿has probado ya el cachopo o no está incluído en la dieta que deben llevar los jugadores?
C: Lo he probado, ¡por supuesto! Y puedo decir que es uno de mis platos favoritos. Sin embargo, aquí en Asturias tienes una amplia variedad de buena carne, pescado y platos típicos entre los que elegir. Por tanto, la comida no es un problema.
J: Muchas gracias una vez más por tomarte la molestia de contestar estas preguntas, Carlitos. Muchísima suerte para lo que resta de temporada.

Interview with Carlos de Pena
Thanks to Real Oviedo I was granted an exclusive interview with Real Oviedo player Carlos de Pena. Thank you to Real Oviedo and in particular Miguel Sanz for allowing me this opportunity.
First of all Carlos I would like to thank you for agreeing to take part in this interview. I'm sure I speak on behalf of all International shareholders in saying its great for a player to agree to this so we feel closer to the players and part of the club.
John: How are you settling in with the rest of the squad and have they made you feel welcome?
Carlos: I feel very comfortable here in Oviedo. It is like being at home. Same language, same food, same weather and a great group of teammates and that is the most important thing. Since the first day they received me very good and it is a pleasure for me to share dressing room with them.
John: You have played football in your native Uruguay, In England and now in Spain. What are the main differences?
Carlos: There are lots of differences, mainly with the rhythm. In Uruguay it is very slow and more about thinking. In England it is very high and lots of attacks from one side and the other during the 90 minutes. While here in Spain you can find players with lots of quality and although the tempo is slower than in England, you can still find teams that play at a high rhythm.
John: How do you feel you can contribute to the team between now and the end of the season?
Carlos: I am ready since the first day I came here so I think when the coach understands it is my moment I will play and show my best. I came here with the dream of being part of a huge achievement for the club that is to get promoted and I trust a lot in myself and the team to be able to do it.
John: Real Oviedo fans have not yet seen a great deal of you, what kind of player are you and what are your main attributes?
Carlos: I like to get the ball and play 1-1 against the right or left back depending on which side I am playing. I consider that I have a good shot from outside as well as a good crossing. But if I need to play a more defensive part in the team I can still do it.
John: How confident are you and the rest of the squad we can get promoted via the play offs or at this stage is the goal simply to reach the play offs and take it from there?
Carlos: The main objective right now is to get to the playoffs. Then we can start to think on getting promoted. But it is step by step. We can’t think further than the next game. So thinking in this way we can concentrate just in the next game.
John: What are your early impressions of the Estadio Carlos Tartiere and the atmosphere in the stadium?
Carlos: I think every game we play there we really feel like home. The atmosphere is amazing and every game the people push us to get the three points. For us it is very important when the crowd sings or cheers because that is positive for us and also causes an effect on our rivals in a negative way.
John: Before you signed for the club did you know about the Real Oviedo story with all the international shareholders etc? It’s a special club yes?
Carlos: Of course I knew about this team. It is a really big team and deserves to be in La Liga next year as it used to be years before as well as playing European competitions. I hope we can achieve our goal and bring to reality the dream everyone has in Oviedo.
John: What do you think of Oviedo and Asturias as a whole? Myself and all other shareholders I have spoken too have all fallen in love with the place and the people.
Carlos: It is a small but very nice city. You can find whatever you want over here. From nice places where to eat to amazing scenery to visit and appreciate incredible places. On my days off I like to drive and find hidden places such as beaches or mountains.
John: Finally the question that’s on everyone’s mind is: have you tried a Cachopo yet or is that not allowed as part of a footballers diet?
Carlos: I tried it of course!! And I can say its one of my favourite dishes! But here in Asturias you have a big variety of good meat, fish and typical dishes to choose from. So food is not a problem hahaha.
