Real Oviedo 2 Llagostera 1

Fantastic first half seals the points

Real Oviedo returned to the sanctuary of the Carlos Tartiere after two away games and turned in a fine performance to beat Llagostera in the two sides first ever meeting.

Linares and Kone were the goal scorers either side of a Querol equaliser for the visitors.

Sergio Egea made two changes from last weeks trip to Cordoba with Linares coming back in for Toche and Hervias replacing the suspended Susaeta.

Oviedo got off to the ideal start when Linares latched onto a perfect through ball inside 2 minutes from Johannesson to stroke home beyond Rene and give the hosts the lead. It was a fine goal and just what the home side needed.

On 7 minutes Oviedo went close to doubling their lead when the impressive Borja Valle burst down the left flank before squaring the ball for an unmarked Linares but this time Rene was out quickly to smother the shot and make a fantastic save.

The hosts were dominant in the early stages and the confidence was clearly flowing. Johannesson hit a dipping volley from 25 yards but his ambitious effort went wide.

Then just before the 20-minute mark the visitors equalised completely against the run of play. Left back Samu played a long ball up field and there was Querol who had managed to get in behind the Oviedo back line to control the ball, round Esteban and slot into the empty net.

Thankfully they were not level for long as just five minutes later Oviedo re-took the lead. A short corner was played back to Pena who whipped in a cross for Jonathan Vila to flick on and Kone volleyed in from 6 yards. It was a well-taken finish by the striker as the ball came at an awkward height but Kone managed to adjust his body well.

On the half hour Valle went close to a third for Los Carbayones but his stunning curling effort was inches wide of the top corner. The same player almost scored on the stroke of half time when Pena once again got forward. He played a deep cross to the far post and there was Valle with a spectacular volleyed effort but Rene pulled off an equally spectacular save and kept the score line down to 2-1 at the interval.

As so often is the case when there is an action packed first half the second half was a quieter affair with less goal mouth action than the first. Goal scorer Querol had an effort on the hour mark from Escassi's low cross but he failed to get any power on his shot and Esteban gathered comfortably.

The visitors were more organised after the break though but as the second half went on they found themselves susceptible to the counter attack and Valle nearly took full advantage on 75 minutes but his low drive from the edge of the box was well saved by Rene. Substitute Aguirre had the best chance for Oviedo in the second half and that came with just three minutes remaining. Hervias played the left footed winger in who controlled inside the area before unleashing a low fierce drive across the goalkeeper but it went agonisingly wide of the far post.

There was one final half chance for the visitors and it came from one of their trademark long throw’s. Oviedo cleared to the edge of the box and Pitu volleyed goal wards but much to Oviedo's relief it was wide of the target and Oviedo held firm to record a thoroughly deserved victory.

This victory lifts Real Oviedo up to sixth place in the league table. Next week we travel to face Mirandes who currently lie just once place below ourselves in seventh.

Hala Oviedo!
