Oviedo thrash Mirandes
Real Oviedo swept aside Mirandes 4-1 at the Carlos Tartiere with a fine display. The damage came in the second half mainly where Real Oviedo were in ruthless form.
David Generelo recalled Linares to the starting line up for his first league start since September. For Mirandes Abdon Prats who scored a hat trick on his last visit in the cup before Xmas was only on the bench.
Real Oviedo needed a win in this game to keep alive their hopes of automatic promotion and got off to the perfect start taking the lead after 5 minutes. Susaeta's corner to Valle was blocked and the loose ball fell to Jon Erice on the edge of the box and the midfielder lashed home his first goal of the season.
The visitors nearly equalised on 18 minutes when Inigo Eguaras was allowed too much space on the edge of the penalty area but thankfully his effort hit the crossbar and away to safety.
Oviedo nearly scored a wonderful goal on 33 minutes after neat interplay between Valle and Toche. The latter crossing low for Linares but the striker couldn’t make any contact in front of goal. It was the visitors who finished the first half stronger though and only a stunning save from Mino denied Salinas at point blank range from Sangalli's cross. Sangalli himself had another good chance but he blazed over from close range albeit a tight angle.
Five minutes into the second half the first chance fell to Toche after a superb run down then right by Fernandez. Toche's effort was deflected wide. This was just a temporary reprieve for Mirandes though as Toche made no mistake this time. Again it came down the right but this time via Susaeta. His low cross was met by Linares who attempted a back heel. This was saved by Raul Fernnadez but the loose ball fell to Toche who tucked it away.
Six minutes later and Oviedo were in dreamland when Borja Valle made it three when he ran onto Toche's perfectly weighted through ball before chipping over Fernandez.
Real Oviedo made it 4-0 on 77 minutes when Galan was penalised for a handball in the area. Susaeta stepped up and smashed home the penalty. Mirandes managed to pull a goal back in injury time when Dani Provencio hammered home a cross from Alain Oyarzun. This didn’t take the gloss off a wonderful victory for Los Carbayones. We now go into the last 4 games of the season in 5th place looking to secure at least a play off spot. We would probably need to win all 4 games and hope for favours from elsewhere for automatic promotion to still be a possibility but you never know.
Hala Oviedo!
