Gimnastic 0 Real Oviedo 0

Valuable away point

Real Oviedo picked up a valuable away point in their promotion clash with Nastic. Both teams went into the game level on 52 points and couldn’t be separated here in the lunchtime sunshine.

With Susaeta suspended in came Borja Valle. Hector Verdes also returned to the starting line up.

Real Oviedo started the game brightly and had the games first chance when Jon Erice's long-range cross/shot had the keeper scrambling and landed on the roof of the net. Carlos Pena also had a good effort on 15 minutes when his curling effort went just the wrong side of the post.

The best chance of the game came to the home side though when Achille Emana blazed over with just Mino to beat from inside the 6-yard box. It was a let off for the visitors.

Toche put himself in bravely to meet Pena's low cross but the defender did enough to ensure Toche's effort wasn’t on target.

Nastic finished the half the stronger side after David Fernandez limped off with a hamstring injury. They created another good chance before the interval though when Naranjo met a left wing cross but Mino kept out the header with a spectacular save.

Into the second half and again the first chance was created by Oviedo. This time Fernandez went on a driving run down the right hand side before unleashing an effort from just inside the box but his effort went wide of the near post.

The home side started pressing more and creating a few more chances. Mino coming to the rescue again denying Naranjo once more.

Nastic then had claims for a penalty but the referee decided it was a dive by Zurdo and booked the substitute. Oviedo were struggling to create chances as the game went on and have Mino to thank for keeping the score line level as he made two more key saves before the end of the game, first from a right wing free kick that evaded everyone. Mino stopped it sneaking in at the far post. From the resulting corner he performed more heroics keeping out Zurdo's header.

That was the last action of the game in terms of chances however there was still time for Hector Verdes to pick up a 2nd yellow card and receive his marching orders. Just like last weeks with Susaeta both yellows were ridiculously harsh.

Anyway Verdes will now be suspended along with Jonathan Vila and it seems likely David Fernandez and Diegui will be injured so there could be some interesting decisions for David Generelo to make next weekend when we face Huesca at the Carlos Tartiere.

Hala Oviedo!
