Tenerife 0 Real Oviedo 2

First away win of the season

Goals from Miguel Linares and Borja Valle were enough as Real Oviedo recorded their first away win of the season with a 2-0 victory over Tenerife in the Canaries

Goals from Miguel Linares and Borja Valle were enough as Real Oviedo recorded their first away win of the season with a 2-0 victory over Tenerife in the Canaries.
This was the also the first clean sheet of the season as Real Oviedo rounded off a wonderful week of 3 victories.
Sergio Egea made just one change to last weeks win over Albacete with Omgba coming into the midfield in place of Hector Font who was rested.
The first action of the game came in the seventh minute when Tenerife gave away the first of many free kicks and Susaeta whipped in for Linares to head against the bar. As it happens the flag was up for offside so it wouldn’t have counted had it gone in. If that was a lesson for Tenerife then they didn’t learn it as just a minute later they gave away another free kick. Once again Susaeta delivered an inch perfect delivery and there was Linares who had escaped his marker to nod home from 2 yards. It was the perfect start to the game and set the tone. Oviedo set about controlling possession early on and were dominant.
Midway through the half and Valle had a golden chance to double the lead after winning possession high up the pitch, he drove towards goal from the corner of the box. There were options in the centre but he went to beat the keeper at the near post but Tenerife keeper Dani reacted well and tipped round the post.
Susaeta was next to nearly get on the score sheet now as Oviedo were carving out chances. Raul Camara miss-controlled in his own area and the ball fell to the winger but Camara managed to redeem himself and got in an excellent block that saved a certain goal.
Tenerife finally created a half chance when Alberto headed over from a corner five minutes before half time.
The second half had a similar pattern to the first with Oviedo scoring after 8 minutes of it. Right back Fernandez crossed for Borja Valle to leap and power a superb header into the top corner and make the score 2-0. Also just like the first half Oviedo were in complete control and Tenerife were failing to create chances as Oviedo defended superbly. The home side finally had a shot on 75 minutes when substitute Omar hit a wonderful drive from 25 yards but Esteban tipped excellently over.
It was a frustrating match for the Canarian side and in the case of former Oviedo player Aitor Sanz it was too much. After a yellow card in the first half for a foul on Linares he dived in on Substitute Edu Bedia and received a 2nd yellow and of course his marching orders.
Toche had a chance to make it 3-0 on 86 minutes but his left footed effort lacked any real conviction and was easy for Dani.
In injury time Tenerife created their best chance of the game when Lozano was clean through but out came Esteban to make another great save. This was the final action of a very satisfactory game for Los Carbayones.
The manner of this victory will be most pleasing for Sergio Egea. We dominated this game from start to finish and thoroughly deserved our 3 points.

Next week we will aim to make it 3 consecutive league wins when we welcome Girona to the Carlos Tartiere.
