Ponferradina 4 Real Oviedo 2

Oviedo edged out in goal fest

Real Oviedo lost on the road at Ponferradina 4-2 after another extraordinary match in the Liga Adelante at the Estadio El Toralin.

Coach Egea made two changes from last weeks win over Alcorcon with Christian Rivera and Fernandez replacing the injured Nacho Lopez and Hector Verdes. Linares was back from suspension and was named amongst the substitutes.

The game started off at a fast pace with both sides looking dangerous but it was Oviedo who created the first few chances. Kone had the best of them after just 3 minutes when he was clean through on goal from Hervias's pass but curled his effort wide. Toche and Hervias also had decent chances in the opening 15 minutes. The game continued to be end to end though and despite not creating chances the home side were looking a real threat. It was Oviedo who took the lead on 25 minutes and it came from the spot after Kone's shot hit the hand of Pavon. The home side seemed less then happy with the referee's decision but Susaeta wasn’t worried as he tucked the ball under Santamaria. Oviedo held the lead for 8 minutes before the home side levelled. A corner to the far post was nodded back across goal by Andy to Berrocal who swivelled and volleyed in from 6 yards. The home side's tails were clearly up from this and they swarmed forward at every opportunity and were looking a threat in the final quarter of an hour before half time and took the lead on 41 minutes. There was an element of luck in the goal. A cross from the left side was touched by Yuri but the ball took a wicked deflection off David Fernandez and wrong footed Esteban in the Oviedo goal and the home side were in front. The score remained 2-1 until half time when the referee bought the 100mph half to an end.

The second half got underway and it continued in the same vein with chances coming at will for both teams. Berrocal with two chances for the home team in the opening five minutes after the break. Hervias then had a great chance for Oviedo after substitute Johannsson pulled a low cross back to the penalty spot but the tricky winger's effort went inches wide of the far post.

Ponferradina hit the cross bar soon after when Alvaro let fly from the edge of the box. It really was chance after chance and Hervias was having a lot of joy down the left hand side beating his man time and time again looking to cut inside for the shot which he did on the hour mark but his effort curled wide of the far post. Amazingly the score going into the last ten minutes remained 2-1 but you felt there were more goals and they duly arrived with another three in the last ten minutes. David Caiado made it 3-1 to the home side when he combined with fellow substitute Jebor after the latter burst through midfield but his miss-hit shot fell to Caiado who rounded Esteban and stroked home.

Oviedo were not out of it just yet though as on 85 minutes they pulled one back and again it came from the spot after Basha tripped David Fernandez in the box. Susaeta sent Santamaria the wrong way this time.

The final goal came in the last minute and it went to the home side when Caiado grabbed his second after latching on to Jebor's back heeled through ball and the score line was now 4-2.

The referee bought this match to its end and Oviedo slipped down to 7th in the league table.

Next week we will look to bounce back with victory at home to fellow promoted side Athletic Bilbao B.
