Numancia 0 Real Oviedo 0

Valuable away point for Los Carbayones

Real Oviedo picked up a valuable away point from a largely forgettable evening at the Nuevo Estadio Los Pajaritos. It stretches Oviedo's unbeaten run to 6 games.

There was one change from last weeks superb win over Cadiz with Lucas Torro coming in to replace Linares.

The game started slowly with not much penalty box action as both teams struggled to breakdown each other’s stubborn defence and were both restricted to long-range attempts. Capilla firing over for the home side & Jon Erice's sliced long-range effort that was miles off target was probably Oviedo's best attempt of the opening 45 minutes. The home side went closer with a free kick that was well saved by Juan Carlos and probably the opening periods only real chance when Manu del Moral's top corner bound header was clawed to safety by Juan Carlos.

Two minutes into the second half and the home side should have taken the lead when Pablo Valcarce pulled the ball back for Del Moral again but he somehow side footed wide from 6 yards. It was a great chance and a big let off for Oviedo.

It was the home side doing most of the attacking. They went even closer on 65 minutes when captain Julio Alvarez struck the post. It was a fine volleyed effort from just outside the box that hit the inside of the post and rolled across the face of goal and to safety. Very unlucky from Numancia's point of view you have to say.

Juan Carlos then came to Oviedo's rescue denying both Escassi and Valcarce with two saves in the space of two minutes.

With ten minutes to go Real Oviedo suddenly burst into life and themselves went close to winning the game twice in the space of two minutes. Firstly Michu's effort from Saul's assist is cleared off the line then moments later Jon Erice's pile driver from the edge of the box goes inches wide.

This was the last goalmouth action of the match and it ended goalless. A good point for Oviedo in the first of two away games. Next week we travel to Madrid to face relegation threatened Rayo Vallecano.
