Oviedo fight back twice to earn draw
Real Oviedo twice came from behind to earn a draw at home to Numancia at the Carlos Tartiere.
Coach Hierro made 3 changes from last week’s superb victory in Cadiz. In came Michu, Christian and Edu Bedia to replace Nando, Jon Erice and Carlos Pena.
It was Numancia who struck first on 12 minutes when Oviedo's old problems of defending set pieces reared their ugly heads. Julio Alvarez whipped in a corner and there was Regalon to flick into the net to give the visitors the lead.
Oviedo needed a swift response and got one just 8 minutes later with a superb equaliser. Right back Fernandez volleyed in a pinpoint cross and there was Toche to nod home a fine header and draw Los Carbayones level. Both sides were reduced to long-range efforts for the remainder of the first half as Manu tried his luck for Numancia with Toche and Michu having decent efforts, as the score at half time was 1-1.
Toche was first to go close in the second half when he chested down and volleyed from just inside the area but found Munir in the Numancia goal in fine form.
Just after the hour mark and the visitors took the lead and it came from an individual error. Oscar Gil miss-controlled the ball and it ran loose for Manu to run clear and stroke the ball under Juan Carlos. It was a kick in the teeth for Oviedo as we had conceded a sloppy goal again.
Once again though we showed we are made of tough stuff and showed character to come from behind. A Toche flick on was collected by substitute Nando and his low ball across the box was bundled into his own net by Callens for a bit of a calamitous own goal but credit to Oviedo for creating the danger.
Both teams huffed and puffed for the last 20 minutes but the game ended 2-2 and that was probably fair overall.
Next week we are at home again in the early Sunday kick off when Rayo Vallecano travel north.
