Oviedo stretch lead at top of table
Susaeta and Sergio Garcia on target
Real Oviedo stretched their lead at the top of the table to
eight points after winning on the road at El Plantio against Burgos.
Sergio Egea made two changes to last weeks line up with
Borja Valle and Generelo coming into replace Omgba and the suspended Hector
Font. There was also a youthful look to the bench with Diegui and Allyson both
amongst the substitutes. This partly due to the news from Saturday that Sene
has now left the club. He has moved on to join Celta B.
Oviedo did what’s become a bit of a trademark this season
and took the lead very early in the game. This time just 9 minutes were on the
clock when Susaeta’s free kick from near the corner flag curled towards the
back post and avoided everyone including goalkeeper Alvaro and nestled into the
back of the net. Oviedo were by no means having it all their own way though as
Burgos struck the woodwork twice during the first half. Burgos were putting
Oviedo under pressure but were caught out on a counter attack as Oviedo doubled
their lead at a killer time – On the stroke of half time. Sergio Garcia raced
onto a through ball from Borja Valle and coolly slotted home through the
onrushing Alvaro’s legs to deflate Burgos.
Burgos were not as threatening in the second half but Oviedo
had to play the last ten minutes with ten men as right back Nacho Lopez picked
up a second yellow card and was sent off. This did create more pressure towards
the dying moments whereby Burgos once again struck the woodwork. Oviedo
survived though and picked up another clean sheet and most importantly another
3 points.
This proved to be a massive win as Guijuelo dropped points
going down 1-0 at home to Compostela. Real Murcia leapfrog Guijuelo into second
after they picked up maximum points from their trip to Celta B. UD Logrones won
their second consecutive home match and remain fourth with a 3-1 win over
Zamora despite being down to 10 men midway through the second half. Ex Oviedo
player Iker Alegre grabbed the third goal for Logrones. Racing Ferrol are fifth
after a 4-2 home win over Astorga. Langreo won 4-1 away at doomed Marino whose
situation at the bottom seems to get worse by the week. In Sundays other two
games Aviles and Gijon B drew 1-1 and Cultural and Somozas drew 2-2. There were
two matches on Saturday, Lealtad drew 1-1 at home to Coruxo and Valladolid B
drew 2-2 with Tropezon.
Next week we are back at Carlos Tartiere where
Cultural Leonesa are the visitors.
