Oviedo turn on the style to see off Valladolid B
Borja Valle the star of the show
Real Oviedo turned on the style to see off a talented
Valladolid B outfit 4-1 at the Carlos Tartiere. After an even first half, Real
Oviedo really turned it on in the second half with a dominant 45 minutes to
ease to victory.
Sergio Egea made his almost customary two changes to the
starting line with a straight swap at right back with Johannesson replacing the
suspended Nacho Lopez. Susaeta also came back into the side with Omgba dropping
to the bench.
Oviedo made a bright confident start to the match, which was
to be expected after last week’s goal fest at Guijuelo.
Dani Bautista was the first to threaten but his 25-yard
effort was saved comfortably by Julio. Borja Valle was showing a sign of things
to come on 20 minutes when he cut inside from his left wing into the area on
his right foot but his low effort was straight at Julio.
Real Oviedo took the lead just before the half hour mark and
it came courtesy of a mix up in the visitors defence. Bautista played a
diagonal ball into the box, which seemed destined for safety, only for Alexis
to try an acrobatic clearance. He only managed to lay it on a plate for Dioni
though who lobbed over Julio and Linares made sure tapping into an empty net
from 2 yards out.
The lead didn’t last long though as almost immediately the
visitors equalised. Again it came from some hesitant defending. Bautista aimed
to clear the ball from the left back position only for Navas to block the
clearance and the ball fell perfectly for Jorge who slid the ball home from a
tight angle under Esteban. The visitors were looking a threat after this with
some dangerous counter attacks and they almost took the lead on the stroke of
half time from one but Toni’s effort was ruled out for offside.
The second half was a different story though as Oviedo came
out all guns blazing with a higher tempo to their play. On 47 minutes Valle
again was causing problems for the visitors and he was first to test Julio but
the keeper got down well to his right to save the wingers fine 25 yard effort.
The keeper was however helpless 6 minutes later as Borja Valle scored a lovely
goal to put Oviedo back in front. He once again picked up the ball on the left
hand side before cutting inside beating two men as he drove into the box before
producing a wonderful low drive into the bottom corner. A terrific strike from
a player who is fast becoming a real star for Los Carbayones.
As if that wasn’t enough just moments later and Valle
struck again. This time latching on to a Font pass to the corner of the penalty
area before unleashing a Messi-esque chip over the onrushing Julio into the
empty net to send the Oviedo fans wild. It was another excellent finish by the
wide man. Valladolid B were stunned and Oviedo were dominant as they were
controlling possession and looking to increase the score line. Linares went close to doing just that but
fired just over from inside the area after Font’s excellent pass. Oviedo were
not to be denied the fourth goal for long though and again the little genius
Font was involved. He played a chipped pass to substitute Ombga who from just
inside the area had his back to goal. He chested it down, swivelled and
volleyed into the bottom corner off the inside of the post. It was a wonderful
strike to round off a magnificent performance and maintain or six point lead at
the top of the table. There was also time for Sergio Egea to put Englishman
Charlie Dean on for the last few minutes so he could make his debut for the
club. Next week sees us travel to Las Gaunas for a tough encounter against
third place UD Logrones.
