Oviedo with superb away performance
Unbeaten run continues
Real Oviedo moved to within one point of securing the
Segunda B group 1 title after a superb all round display to see off Zamora 4-1
at the Estadio Ruta de la Plata. Roared on by over 3,500 visiting Carbayones
Oviedo dominated the game from start to finish to all but seal top spot in the
division. Just one point from our remaining four games will be enough so that
we cannot be caught at the top.
Sergio Egea made three changes to the starting line up for
various reasons with Nacho Lopez, David Fernandez and top scorer Linares making
way for Charlie, Johannesson and Susaeta. There was also a place for Generelo
on the bench after his long lay off through injury.
The game got under way in the sunshine and with Oviedo
supporters packed into the stadium clearly outnumbering the hosts in both
numbers and noise and the team responded to that. A bright start by Oviedo with
the away side dominating the early possession. Susaeta was first to test Miguel
in the home goal with a low drive from inside the area but his shot lacked any
real conviction and was comfortable for the keeper. Sergio Garcia also tried
his luck with an effort from just outside the box but again his effort was
straight at Miguel. Zamora were looking vulnerable and were playing a high line
and this was to be their downfall. On 26 minutes Jon Erice spotted Garcia’s run
and played a delicious lobbed defence splitting ball for Garcia to run onto and
volley home wonderfully to give Oviedo the lead. It was a great goal and had
been coming since the start of the game.
Twelve minutes later and Oviedo doubled their lead. Borja
Valle this time the goalscorer. He weaved his way into the box before
exchanging a neat one-two with Susaeta before finishing brilliantly into the
bottom corner. It was another fantastic strike and further proof that goals can
seemingly come from anywhere in this team.
Half time arrived and the score was 2-0 to Oviedo and it was
a comfortable 45 minutes.
Into the second half and Oviedo put the game beyond doubt on
57 minutes. Again Erice and Sergio Garcia were involved. Erice played a chipped
ball into the box for Sergio Garcia to bring down with his first touch and
there was Borja Valle to fire home between the keepers legs for 3-0 and his
second of the game. Oviedo were in total cruise control and stopped the hosts
creating virtually any chances until the 84th minute when they
suddenly had two chances. First Manu Gavilan escaped from the defence and was
about to fire home but somehow Charlie got back to make a last ditch block to
divert the ball out for a corner. It was a wonderful tackle from the
Englishman. From the resulting corner substitute De la Nava managed to get a
free header but could only head over the bar.
Two minutes later and Oviedo made it 4-0. Dioni escaped down
the right hand side and found himself one on one with the keeper before
producing a wonderful curled finish out of Miguel’s reach and into the far
corner to send the already wild Oviedo fans into delirium.Zamora managed to pull a consolation back in injury
time when after some neat interplay inside the Oviedo box, Sergi Mut played the
ball into Manu Gavilan who finished well past Esteban. The whistle sounded and
the Oviedo fans in the stadium were in fine voice as they gave their players a
fine ovation. We then had to wait an hour for the Real Murcia score to see if
top spot was to be decided today but three second half goals gave them a 3-0
win over Real Aviles so we go into next weeks clash at the Carlos Tartiere
against relegation threatened Tropezon knowing just a point will be enough to
wrap up top spot and a place in the end of season championship play offs.
