Honours even in Santiago de Compostela
Real Oviedo fail to leave Compostela in a heap
Real Oviedo travelled to Santiago de Compstela on Saturday night for their 2nd away game in 4 days. After the disappointment of the Coruxo fixture, Los Carbayones were desperate to return to winning ways and cement a play off spot.
Coach Roberto Robles was forced into 1 change with David
Alba suspended thanks to his red card in midweek. Alvaro returned in his place
and Robles also made 2 tactical changes
with leading scorer Diego Cervero returning to the bench with Alain coming in.
Ivan Rubio was also preferred to Hector Simon in midfield.
Sene was close to giving Real Oviedo the lead when he broke
into the area before curling a shot straight at Adrian in the home goal,
Susaeta was arguably better placed feeling his team mate should have passed.
It wasn’t long though before Susaeta did get his chance.
Annunziata won the ball in midfield and drove towards goal, with 1 man left to
beat the defender got a toe to the ball but it broke to Susaeta who coolly side
footed past Adrian to give Real Oviedo the lead on 32 minutes and a deserved
lead going into the interval.
Real Oviedo twice went close in the 2nd period
from free kicks. Pardo shot narrowly wide from his & Susaeta’s cleared the
cross bar.
Compostela had upped their game though and equalised on 73
minutes through their top scorer Joselu. The goal came after the hitman raced
through and rounded Pol before slotting into an empty net.
He could have added a 2nd near the end but a
combination of Pol & Pardo managed to keep him out and the game ended 1-1
which was probably a fair result with each team bossing a half.
Real Oviedo now have 4 games remaining to try and
secure a play off spot. 3 of these games are at the Carlos Tartiere and an away
game at a play off rival so to some extent our destiny is still on our own
hands. Next week we will aim to get back to winning ways when it’s the 1st
of our 3 remaining home games against Celta Vigo B
