Oviedo slip to home defeat
Unbeaten home record comes to an end
Real Oviedo slipped to a surprise defeat at the Carlos
Tartiere against a defensive Zamora outfit. There were over 12,000 fans inside
the stadium as Los Carbayones looked to extend their 100% home record. It
wasn’t to be though as Manu Gavilan’s 34th minute strike was enough
to earn the visitors maximum points.
Sergio Egea had recalled Generelo to the starting eleven
with Omgba dropping out. Other than that though and it was an unchanged line
up.
Oviedo created many chances and Linares even had the ball in
the net towards the end of the game but his strike was ruled out after the
referee adjudged the striker to have used his hand in the build up. Linares
also went close with a diving header from a Susaeta delivery but Zamora held
firm and denied Oviedo scoring for the second successive season.
Real Oviedo do however remain on top of the table after
Murcia slipped to a 1-0 defeat at Real Aviles.
UD Logrones kept up the pace after beating Racing Ferrol to
join Oviedo and Murcia on 31 points. Coruxo missed an opportunity to leapfrog
the top three but could only draw 0-0 with Compostela.
Attention now turns to the much-anticipated Copa del
Rey 4th round 1st leg tie against David Moyes’s Real
Sociedad at the Carlos Tartiere on Thursday. This tie will be a real gage of
how far we have come. It promises to be a fantastic evening in front of a
bumper crowd and hopefully we can get a positive result. It will be superb if
we can win the game if not the next best thing to make sure we are still in the
tie for the 2nd leg. We then travel on Sunday next week to Tropezon
looking to get another away victory.
