A Real Oviedo side with plenty of new faces gained revenge
on a Sporting B side in the sun at Carlos Tartiere on the opening day of the
Segunda B season. After a long summer over 11,000 fans turned up to cheer their
team on as hopes were high going into the season under new manager Sergio Egea.
In an eventful game Gijon B were reduced to 10 men just
before the half hour mark when Carlos Viesca was sent off for 2 yellow cards.
This was after a great opening 20 minutes by the home side which was played
with great intensity.
Despite going close on a couple of occasions it took until
five minutes before the interval for Oviedo to make the extra man advantage
count. New signing Generelo side footing home from close range after Gijon B
had failed to clear a corner from Nestor Susaeta.
On the hour mark Oviedo doubled their lead and it was down
to neat play between two new signings. Hector Font received the ball and in one
motion turned, dragging the ball with him taking 3 defenders out the game in
the process. He then slid a ball through for Linares to chip expertly over the
onrushing keeper Dennis and into the net. It was a great finish to a great
move. In particular superb skill shown by Hector Font. Real Oviedo should then
have had a penalty after Linares was cynically taken down in the area but the
referee waved away the protests.
Gijon B then got themselves back into the game thanks to a
great strike from Guitian from 25 yards that flew past Esteban into the top
corner. Esteban stood no chance.
The joy was short lived for the ten men though as Real
Oviedo restored their two-goal advantage ten minutes later and again it was
courtesy of the new men. Generelo shot from distance and Dennis was a menace to
his own team, as he could only parry the ball back in front of himself and
Linares showed the poachers instinct and was first to react side footing the
ball home for his second and Oviedo’s third.
All in all a great opening day result and performance for
Los Carbayones. The only slight downside of the day was the injury to Borja
Valle. Fingers crossed it isn’t too serious.
Elsewhere in the opening weekend of the Segunda B group 1
the games actually started on Saturday with Celta Vigo B fresh from their
reprieve were 2-0 victors away at newly promoted Lealtad. Atletico Astorga won
the battle of the newly promoted teams beating Valladolid B 2-1.
Compostela showed there is life after Joselu with a
comfortable 2-0 victory over Burgos and Guijuelo won 3-2 away at Zamora.
The other Saturday game finished 1-1 between Tropezon and
Cultural Leonesa.
On to Sundays action and the big surprise was another of the
newly promoted teams Somozas who were too hot for Real Aviles. Heber with the only goal there. Yet another of
the newly promoted teams Union Langreo held Racing Ferrol to a goalless draw
and Coruxo drew 1-1 at home to Marino de Luanco.
Real Murcia and UD Logrones are yet to play their match.
Next week we make the short journey to face Real
Aviles for our first away game in another all Asturian clash.
