Nastic take slender lead to Carlos Tartiere

Real Oviedo went down to a narrow 2-1 defeat in the first
leg of the championship final away at Gimnastic Tarragona.
Sergio Egea chose to leave a lot of his first team squad at
home to give them more of a rest as the season draws to a close. With promotion
secured it was a chance to play some youngsters as Allyson and Johannensson
were in the starting line up, with Vetusta players Emilio and Christian Rivera
named amongst the substitutes. There was also a place for Gorka in between the
sticks with Esteban given a rest.
The game got underway and almost from the off you could tell
from both sides the pressure was off after the tortures of the last few weeks
and both sides were looking to get the ball down, play and enjoy
themselves.
After an open 20 minutes without any real chances the home
side took the lead. Marc Martinez clipped a ball to the edge of the penalty box
and there was Lago who out jumped Redondo and headed over Gorka in the Oviedo
goal to give his side the lead. It was a remarkable header from distance. On 25
minutes Omgba went close to equalising as he looked to add to his growing list
of spectacular goals but his 25-yard blockbuster went inches wide of the top
corner. As the half drew to a close Nastic looked to double their lead as Munoz
went on a mazy run to the edge of the box but shot straight at Gorka.
It wasn’t the last action of the half though as Real Oviedo
equalised on 44 minutes and what a goal. Sergio Garcia picked the ball up on
the left hand flank before cutting inside onto his right foot before unleashing
an unstoppable shot that flew like an arrow into the top corner from fully 30
yards. It was an incredible strike and clearly the best moment of the game.
Half time duly arrived and everyone could draw breathe from what they had just
witnessed.
The second half began with Oviedo looking to carry on the
momentum and were unlucky not to take the lead on 50 minutes when after a neat
through ball from Garcia, Dioni hit a left footed effort but saw his effort
come back off the foot of the post and Cervero couldn’t steer the rebound on
target.
Two minutes later and Garcia was in the action again curling
a free kick just over the bar after Dioni was crudely taken out on the edge of
the area.
The game was nicely set up going into the last 25 minutes or
so but it turned on a controversial moment. Lago picked up a loose ball on the
left and skipped passed Allyson before drawing Omgba into a challenge on the
left hand edge of the box. The winger went down under the challenge and the ref
pointed to the spot for a penalty. On first viewing it looked a fair decision
but on closer inspection from the replays it was clear that there was no
contact from Omgba and it was also outside the penalty area so a double whammy
for Oviedo. To add insult to injury Marcos Jimenez sent Gorka the wrong way and
restored Nastic’s lead.
Oviedo huffed and puffed to try and get back into the game
but nearly conceded again on 88 minutes when Nastic full back Campos pulled a
low cross in to the area and Gerard hit the bar with a curling effort from 12
yards. Oviedo scrambled the rebound to safety. It wasn’t to be Gerard’s day as
he had another chance in stoppage time but tried to be too clever and shoot
with the outside of his right foot rather than use his left and the game
finished 2-1 to the home side, and is nicely poised going into Wednesdays
second leg where we aim to become champions of Segunda B.
There was a special moment in today’s game as Emilio
made his first time debut for Real Oviedo as he replaced Omgba on 79 minutes.
