Marino 0 Real Oviedo 3

Real Oviedo ease to comfortable win

Linares the hero with another double

Real Oviedo made the short trip to the Estadio Municipal de Miramar to face bottom club Marino de Luanco. Despite a 100% home record, Oviedo’s form on the road as been inconsistent so far and Los Carbayones were looking for their first away win since mid September. Coach Egea would be upbeat about having both first choices full backs Nacho and Dani Bautista available.
Sene was also handed a place in the starting line up.
Club Marino started the game brightly coming out of the blocks aiming to rectify their lowly league position. Winger Fran Pastor was looking to test Nacho out down Oviedo’s right hand side. On the quarter hour mark, the winger cut inside before shooting. His effort went just wide of Esteban’s right hand post. Just five minutes later though and Oviedo took the lead with their first real attack of any note. Font escaped down the right before firing in a low cross. Sene arrived at the near post to beat his man but Ponzo managed to get his body behind the ball to stop it, but the ball trickled out onto the goal line and there was Linares to score probably the easiest goal he will ever get. It was what all good strikers do, they know where the danger is and anticipate a loose ball.
Just a few minutes later and Oviedo doubled their lead. After a good move down the right, the ball was pulled back to Font. He stepped inside Fran Pastor but the Marino winger dangled out a leg and Font was tripped. The referee pointed immediately to the spot. Up stepped Nestor Susaeta eager to dust away the cobwebs of his previous penalty miss against UCAM Murcia. This time he made no mistake and smashed the ball into the top corner.
Sene went close to making it three soon after but his 25 yard effort was cleverly tipped round the post by Ponzo. This was pretty much the last action of any note in the first period.
The second half followed suit with the last quarter of an hour of the first with Real Oviedo controlling the game. Neither side really created any chances as Oviedo were happy to just kill the game and control possession. In fact it took until the 79th minute for the next chance and it was the third goal. Susaeta whipped in a corner and there was Linares between defenders to nod home and seal the game completely, yet another goal for the hitman. Eneko nearly made it four in the last minute after going clean through but Ponzo pulled off a fantastic save to deny the substitute. It was the last action and the final whistle sounded to round off a comfortable 3-0 victory. It was in many ways the perfect away perfomance. A good display with three goals and a clean sheet on the road will be the things that pleased Egea the most. Next week we are back at the Carlos Tartiere where we entertain Lealtad.
