Oviedo extend lead at the top of the table
Omgba on the mark
Real Oviedo moved six points clear at the top of Segunda B
group 1 table after a hard fought win over fellow Asturian’s Real Aviles.
Omgba’s deflected effort after 17 minutes was the difference between the sides.
The game was played in dreadful conditions after a tremendous downpour for
virtually the entire 90 minutes.
Pre-match the question on everyone’s mind was who would
Sergio Egea pick to replace the suspended Linares. Was it to be the experienced
club legend Diego Cervero or would Egea plum for the youth and exuberance of
Allyson. The answer was Diego Cervero. Sergio Garcia also started the game and
these two played a part in the only goal of the game. Former Real Aviles player
Nacho and Sergio Garcia combined down the right before Garcia played the ball
in to the box for Cervero. He teed up Ombga whose effort found the bottom
corner of the net via a deflection.
Today’s win was all the more important as the teams in
second and third at the start of the weekend both lost. Logrones going down 1-0
at Astorga and Guijuelo were surprisingly well-beaten 3-0 at lowly Tropezon.
Troubled Real Murcia moved back up to third spot after a 1-0 win over fellow
play off hopefuls Racing Ferrol.
Valladolid B won 1-0 on the road away at Zamora and are back
in the top six. Cultural Leonesa are up to seventh after an impressive 2-0
victory away at Compostela. Union Langreo and Somozas cemented their spots in
mid table after 1-0 home wins over nine man Celta B and Burgos respectively.
Corxuo and Gijon B shared four goals and Lealtad won the battle of the bottom
two on Saturday after defeating Marino 1-0.
This was a valuable win and as mentioned above gives us a
nice little buffer as we go into a tricky little run of fixtures over the next
few weeks. We have some important and difficult fixtures before the end of
February. Trips to Burgos, Guijuelo and Logrones as well as home games against
Cultural Leonesa, Valladolid B and Racing Ferrol.
The first of these fixtures is next weekend away at
Burgos.
