Real Oviedo back on top of the table
Murcia brushed aside by first half blitz
Real Oviedo brushed aside a Real Murcia side to go back to
the summit of the Segunda B group 1 table, mainly thanks to yet another hat
trick from Linares who kept up his incredible scoring record this season. Over
16,500 fans had packed into the Carlos Tartiere as the team bounced back in
style from last weeks defeat.
Sergio Garcia made a welcome return to the starting line up
in place of Eneko and there was also a place on the bench for Borja Valle for
the first time this season as he has made his recovery from an injury sustained
in pre-season.
A lot of talk pre-match was of a cagey affair, maybe one
goal to settle this top of the table clash. This could not be further from the
truth though as Oviedo rushed into a two-goal lead inside the opening 20
minutes. First to pounce was Linares meeting a superb deep cross from right
back Nacho Lopez to power a header back across the keeper into the top corner,
a truly wonderful striker’s goal.
Five minutes later and Linares was at it again. This time
latching on to a through ball from Sergio Garcia to chip over Fernando in the
Murcia goal.
Generelo had a wonderful chance to make it three a few
minutes before half time but his effort cleared the bar. Oviedo fans needn’t
have worried though as the third did arrive on the stroke of half time. Nacho
Lopez again the provider. His bustling run down the right culminated in a low
cross and there was Sergio Garcia to drive beyond Fernando to make the score at
half time: Oviedo 3 Murcia 0.
The second half was more of a low key affair, that was until
around the 70 minute mark. Armando pulled a goal back for Murcia with a
terrific strike into the bottom corner giving Esteban no chance. Their comeback
was short lived however as they were soon to be down to 10 men. Ruben Sanchez
was shown a second yellow card by the referee. Real Oviedo rubbed salt into
wounds by restoring their 3-goal advantage as Linares completed his hat trick.
Sergio Garcia won the ball mid way inside the Murcia half and fed a through
ball to the striker who turned past Murcia defender David Prieto before lifting
the ball over Fernando. Another great strike for a player I am quite frankly
running out of words to praise him with. This completed the scoring with the
final result Oviedo 4 Murcia 1.
All in all a terrific display and result by Los
Carbayones which lifts us to the top of the table. Next week we look to improve
on our indifferent away form with a trip in to the relative unknown as we
travel to face Atletico Astorga.
