Real Oviedo slip to defeat in Langreo
Late Cervero strike not enough for Oviedo
Real Oviedo slipped to their third away defeat of the
season. This time a 2-1 reverse at Union Langreo. Over 1,000 Oviedo fans made
the 15 mile journey to Langreo for a fixture that seemed to scream banana skin.
The home side went into the game in excellent form with 13
out of a possible 15 points from their 5 previous fixtures.
Oviedo were at full strength with Eneko preferred on the
left hand side to either Sergio Garcia or Sene. Jon Erice was also in the
starting line up with Omgba dropping to the bench.
Oviedo controlled much of the game in the first half but
created very little as regards clear-cut chances. Then came the sucker punch 5
minutes into the second half as Langreo took the lead with their first real
effort of any note. Ortiz skipped passed 3 men into the box before chipping the
onrushing Esteban. It was a terrific goal by the home side. They then doubled
their lead on 62 minutes when Robert volleyed in a deep cross which went in the
far bottom corner giving Esteban no chance.
Diego Cervero nodded in a last minute consolation for Los
Carbayones and despite there being 5 minutes injury time the home side held out
for an impressive victory. Real Oviedo have now lost half of their away
fixtures which is something we must improve if we are to remain in the top few
places of the league table. Real Murcia are the new leaders of the group after
they overcame Somozas 2-1. UD Logrones drop to second in the table after
conceding a last minute goal in their 2-2 draw with Guijuelo.
Next week see’s a big game as we host real Murcia
looking to maintain our 100% home record. A win would see us join Murcia on 28
points at the top of the table, however a defeat would see us 6 points behind
the leaders. A real 6 pointer lies in store. Hopefully a 15-20,000 crowd could
be the difference between the sides.
