Honours even at El Molinon
Second draw of the season
Real Oviedo were held to a goalless draw at El Molinon
against Sporting B. It is Real Oviedo’s second draw of the season after another
goalless draw against next week’s opponents Real Aviles back in August. Coach
Egea again had to shuffle his pack with Jon Erice suspended and Jonathan Vila
away on parental duties. In stepped Redondo to the centre back position and
Omgba to the midfield. Omgba and Generelo making a start together in midfield.
It was a scrappy start to the game with neither side able to
get the ball into advanced areas as most play was a battle in midfield. Oviedo
were reduced in the early stages to long range efforts. Susaeta twice tried his
luck from 30 yards. Linares was presented with a half chance on 26 minutes when
Sporting B keeper Dennis came rushing off his line 30 yards out near the
touchline and fluffed his lines. Linares rushed his attempt and his first time
effort went wide. It was a tough chance in all honesty. Sporting B were
gathering momentum though and created a few chances of their own. Tato nearly
caught Esteban out at his near post from a free kick. Centre back Mere also
headed straight at Esteban from a corner when unchallenged. It was Oviedo
however who ended the half the stronger of the teams. Linares hit a snap shot
low down but Dennis was equal to it and just on the stroke of half time Omgba
hit the woodwork. A corner was only half cleared and fell to Omgba who mis hit
his attempt which lobbed the ball in the air. It seemed to confuse Dennis and
hit the bar, bounced down on the line and then hit Dennis’s body before
trickling out for a corner. That was
the last action of the first half.
Oviedo were fast out of the blocks and seemed to up the
tempo almost immediately after the interval. The ball was almost trapped in the
Sporting B half but this pressure was not turning to chances straight away as
the home side were determined to keep a clean sheet. Despite the domination it
took ten minutes into the second half for Oviedo to forge out a chance and it
was Sergio Garcia who found himself free in space just inside the area. His
shot was straight at Dennis though. A few minutes later and Omgba forced a
superb save out of Dennis again when his top corner bound curler from the edge
of the box was wonderfully tipped round the post. From the resulting corner
Susaeta’s out-swinger was met by Linares who thought his header had finally
beat the keeper but Dennis was making a real menace of himself as he once again
produced a top class save.
On 70 minutes Oviedo spurned probably he best chance of the
game after neat work down the left from Sergio Garcia, he pulled the ball back
for Omgba from 10 yards out but he couldn’t adjust his feet properly and
dragged his effort well wide. The game went a bit scrappy after that and the
last 15 minutes or so petered out and the referee bought proceedings to an end
with the score Sporting B 0 Real Oviedo 0.
It was a mixed day for Los Carbayones in the end. A decent
second half performance and a clean sheet on the road is always a bonus, the
bad news of the day is the yellow card for Linares as this rules him out of
next weeks game.
This is at the Carlos Tartiere where Real Aviles are
the visitors.
