Real Oviedo 2 Lugo 2

All square at Carlos Tartiere

Real Oviedo kicked off the new season at home to Lugo in front of 13,000 fans and did well to twice come from behind to earn a draw in the opening game of the segunda season. With a bit more luck towards the end Los Carbayones could have made it maximum points.

The main questions before kick off would be who did and who didnt make the starting eleven. Four of the starting eleven were new faces as Fernandez, Borja Gomez, Carlos Pena and Hervais all made their competitive debut for the club. Two more of the new signings made the bench in Verdes and goalkeeper Mino.

It was the visitors who struck first on 15 minutes when Carlos Pita skipped past Jon Erice in midfield before unleashing an arrow in the top corner from just outside the penalty area. Real Oviedo are made of strong stuff though as we saw last season and didn't let this set back affect them as they were level inside 5 minutes. Susaeta whipped in one of his trademark free kicks and it was Jonathan Vila rose tallest to head into the far corner beyond Juan in the Lugo goal. Despite chances at both ends the score remained 1-1 until just before the hour mark when Lugo re-took the lead. De Coz fed Ferreiro down the right hand side and his low cross was diverted beyond Esteban through a combination of Fernandez and Caballero.

Oviedo were refusing to give in though and Linares was determined to carry on his goal scoring form from last season. His left footed effort came back off the bar after good work from Hector Font and the striker also had a header cleared off the line. He wasn't to be denied though as on 71 minutes he latched on the end of substitute Borja Valle's square ball to finish expertly into the top corner and draw Oviedo level again. Borja Valle went close to snatching all three points for Oviedo but it wasn't to be.

A good game was bought to an end and Real Oviedo will be satisfied with good performance and a decent point in the end.

Next week we travel for our first away game of the new campaign when we travel to 2001 UEFA cup runners up Alaves.
