Los Carbayones win on the road
Invasion of Leon as Oviedo win again
Real Oviedo roared on by over 4,000 travelling fans made the
trip to Leon to face Cultural Leonesa. It was an incredible scene seeing all
the Oviedo fans in the stadium with waves of blue down one whole side of the
stadium. Outside the ground and it was like a blue invasion as Oviedista’s were
determined to enjoy their day and make the most of their trip.
Sergio Egea made just one change to the starting line up
with Sergio Garcia coming into the side at the expense of Eneko down the left
hand side.
Real Oviedo dominated the first half and it was a surprise
it took until the 26th minute for them to open the scoring. Despite
all the good football and chances created, the first goal was handed to them on
a plate. Cultural goalkeeper Leandro tried to be too clever by taking on
Linares but only managed to gift it to the striker who rolled the ball into an
empty net.
Completely against the run of play Cultural equalised on 35
minutes and again it was a team creating their own problems. A clumsy challenge
by Sergio Garcia in the box left the referee with little option other than to
award a penalty. Aketxe tucked home his spot kick despite Esteban guessing the
right way. It was just inside the post though out of the keepers reach.
Real Oviedo managed to go into the break ahead though as
they scored just before the interval. Generelo timed his run perfectly to meet
Susaeta’s whipped in corner to head home from six yards to give the visitors a
thoroughly deserved half time lead. It was a more even game in the 2nd
half with not as many chances. Cultural gave Oviedo a scare on 72 minutes when
they hit the bar with a header from a free kick but other than that there were
not many scares. The game was finally sealed in the last minute of injury time
when Susaeta spotted the run of substitute Omgba and played a defence splitting
reverse pass, timed to perfection. It wiped the entire defence out of the game
and left Omgba with a one on one with the keeper. He chose to shoot early and
slotted it home with ease past Leandro to make the score Cultural 1 Real Oviedo
3.
It was another good performance by Los Carbayones and our
third win of the season and our third by the same score line. It moves us up to
second place in the table where we are two points behind Guijuelo.
Guijuelo are top courtesy of the fact they are the only team
with maximum points from their four games. This week they beat Somozas 2-0.
Coruxo are doing well and are up to third in the table after an impressive 1-0
away win at Real Aviles. The leaders at the start of the weekend were Celta B
but they were surprisingly beaten at home 2-0 by Astorga. Zamora also had an
impressive win on the road 2-1 at Racing Ferrol who despite being tipped by
many for good things find themselves at the wrong end of the table. Real Murcia
were also away winners with a 1-0 success at Marino. Yet another away win came
at Vallodolid B where Compostela were
3-2 victors. Burgos edged a five goal thriller against Gijon B where
they ran out 3-2 winners. Lealtad picked up their first win with a 3-1 success
over fellow promoted rivals Union Langreo. Tropezon lost the final game of the
weekend and slip to 19th spot in the table after a 4-1 thumping at
UD Logrones.
Next week we return to the Carlos Tartiere for our
toughest test of the season when its 2nd versus 1st as we
welcome Guijuelo for an early season top of the table clash.
